Phenix Salon Suites Marina Del Rey LLC failed to pay rent to the building’s landlord while continuing to collect license fees from the tenants.
Los Angeles County – December 10, 2025 – Twenty-two women, all independent professionals who rented salon suites from Phenix Salon Suites, have filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court (Case No. 25SMCV06306) after being abruptly evicted from their workspaces at Marina Marketplace without notice. The plaintiffs allege that Phenix Salon Suites Marina Del Rey LLC failed to pay rent to the building’s landlord while continuing to collect license fees from the tenants.
“I was blindsided, we all reached out to management and were assured it was ‘business as usual’ until the very last second,” said Anabel Martinez, one of the affected tenants.
The women, including hairstylists, lash and nail technicians, and other beauty professionals, had signed lease agreements with Phenix Salons guaranteeing them 15 days’ notice before any termination of their rental agreements. However, they were given no warning before being locked out of their suites, leaving them not only without income and in financial distress, but to lose relationships with clients as well.
“These hardworking women entrepreneurs did everything right—they paid their rent on time, built their businesses, and served their communities,” said Jackie Rose Kruger, Esq. of The Kruger Law Firm, who represents the plaintiffs. “Instead of receiving the notice they were contractually entitled to, they were blindsided and left scrambling to salvage their livelihoods. We filed this lawsuit to hold the defendants accountable and to fight for the compensation these women deserve.”
The plaintiffs allege that Phenix Salons not only breached their contractual obligation to provide proper notice but actively concealed the impending eviction by removing posted eviction letters and reassuring the tenants that everything was fine, leaving them unable to retrieve belongings and properly secure new workplaces, all while still collecting their rent. Many of the women lost thousands of dollars in moving or storing equipment, deposits, and missed appointments due to sudden displacement.
The lawsuit seeks damages for money damages, and breach of contract of Phenix Salon Suites, Robert Lee, Lindsay Lee, Marina Marketplace and Carlett Harvey for their failure to communicate with tenants to give proper notice or fulfill its financial obligations to the landlord. The Kruger Law Firm that represent the plaintiffs argue that the company’s actions were not only unethical but illegal, as they violated the terms of the lease agreements.
